We're a family-run outfit based in Etowah, and you'll be dealing with the owners directly — the same people who walk your house, run your sale, and hand you the settlement. There is no franchise office above us and no crew we've never met showing up in your mother's kitchen.
The shop and the estate work feed each other. Running a retail floor means we know what a walnut dresser or a box of costume jewelry actually brings in Western North Carolina this month, not what a guide said it was worth in 1998. Running estate sales means the floor stays full of things people haven't seen a hundred times.
How we work
Four things we don't bend on.
Open every box
Nothing goes out the door unlooked-at. Photographs, letters, service records, and cash in unexpected places come back to the family — that happens more often than you'd think.
Say the unwelcome thing
Sometimes the answer is that the contents won't support a sale, or that a piece the family believes is valuable isn't. You'll hear it from us early rather than at the settlement.
Leave it better than we found it
Empty, swept, doors locked, keys back where they belong. The house should be ready for the realtor without another visit.
Answer the phone
You'll get a person, usually the same one, from the first call to the last load. Small enough to still do that on purpose.
The name
Why a red unicorn.
A unicorn is the thing you don't expect to find. That's the whole business — the piece at the back of the closet nobody knew was there, the tin in the garage, the print behind the door.
Red because it's the colour of the shop and the colour you notice. Up on her back legs because she's a guardian: the old heraldic pose, standing over what she's looking after.
Where we work
Close to home, on purpose.
Etowah, Horse Shoe, Hendersonville, Mills River, Brevard, Flat Rock, Asheville, and the surrounding towns — Henderson, Transylvania, Buncombe, Polk, and Haywood counties.
Staying local is how we can walk a house within a few days of your call, and how our buyers know to keep checking what came in.
Everyone's so busy these days. Come slow down, take a stroll, and see if you can find Ruby. The Red Unicorn
Come by, or call about a house.
Either one. We're a five-minute conversation away from telling you whether we're the right people for this.
